Foreign Policy x AI Workshops take place all over the world and provide participants valuable insights into AI's geopolitical implications, presenting applications of AI for diplomacy and introducing challenges and opportunities posed by AI. The workshops provide a space for collaboration to share questions, knowledge, and expertise in the context of foreign policy and AI.

This workshop was organized in cooperation with the German Embassy in Estonia.

Our recent workshop "Digital Sovereignty through Data Science: A German-Estonian Dialogue" in Tallinn, delved into the role of data science and artificial intelligence in ensuring digital sovereignty. The event gathered experts from Germany and Estonia to discuss the latest applications of data science in strengthening government operations and critical infrastructure.

Our second workshop in Belgrade, titled “Leveraging AI in the Public Sector – Perspectives from Serbia and Germany” provided an in-depth look at Serbia’s AI landscape while examining the global AI hype and its implications. The session featured insights into Germany’s AI and data strategy, as well as perspectives on the EU AI Act from a Serbian viewpoint, offering local insights and perceptions on the Act.

This workshop was organized in cooperation with the Public Policy Secretariat of the Republic of Serbia, the German Embassy in Serbia, and Moravčević Vojnović i Partneri in cooperation with Schoenherr. It was generously hosted at Goethe Institute e.V. Belgrade.


NAIROBI, KENYA

The workshop, tailored for foreign policy professionals in Nairobi, explored the potentials, challenges, and opportunities that AI brings to Africa and Europe. It examined global applications of AI in diplomacy, showcased specific use cases from Germany, and included discussions about potential future applications. The event concluded with a panel of field experts providing an in-depth analysis of AI’s implications for foreign policy in Kenya. 

This workshop was organized in cooperation with the German Embassy in Nairobi and the International Digital Dialogues implemented by GIZ.


INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMATS, BERLIN, GERMANY

This workshop brought together a diverse group of diplomats from over 10 countries for a deep dive into the intersection of AI and Foreign Policy. Guided by the overarching question “The AI Revolution – is Foreign Policy Prepared for the Future?”, the workshop provided a comprehensive overview of AI and engaging discussions on its opportunities and risks. Use cases were showcased and discussed to emphasize the practical implications of AI in the diplomatic context. 

The workshop was organized in cooperation with Training for International Diplomats - Diplomacy by Networking and the German Federal Foreign Office Data Lab.

At the end of the workshop, diplomats shared firsthand experiences with AI within their respective home countries and ministries, fostering invaluable knowledge exchange and cross-border partnerships.


ROME, ITALY

This workshop was designed for the German Embassy staff in Rome and delved into the multifaceted landscape of AI and facilitated enriching exchanges among participants. Besides offering a technical overview of AI, discussions focused on the opportunities and challenges inherent in AI, alongside concrete examples demonstrating AI's significance in foreign policy and how foreign policy shapes AI development, particularly amidst the Italian G7 presidency.

The workshop was organized in cooperation with the German Embassy in Rome.

The event provided valuable insights into AI's geopolitical implications, its role in shaping diplomacy, and the challenges and opportunities it presents. Additionally, attendees benefited from the expertise of data scientists working in the German Federal Foreign Office, gaining valuable knowledge about technical intricacies, specific use cases, and the potential risks and opportunities of leveraging AI in foreign affairs.

The workshop was organized in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office Data Lab.

The workshop, tailored for foreign policy professionals in Mexico City, delved deeply into the realm of AI. Our agenda included introducing the potential, challenges, and opportunities posed by AI. We examined global applications of AI in diplomacy, showcased specific use cases from Germany, and engaged in discussions about potential future applications. Additionally, we explored the challenges and opportunities that AI brought to Mexico.

The workshop was organized in cooperation with the German Embassy in Mexico, and the International Digital Dialogues implemented by GIZ. It was generously hosted at Goethe Institute CDMX.

The workshop was organized in cooperation with the German Embassy and GIZ in Belgrade. 

This workshop was organized in two parts. The first part was designed for the German Embassy staff in Belgrade, with the aim of demystifying artificial intelligence, neural networks, large language models and other topics related to the latest emerging technologies developments. The second part was designed for the GIZ professionals working in Serbia and the broader Western Balkans region. It delved into the latest developments at the intersection of AI and FP, with a specific applications in Peacebuilding, Conflict Prevention, Anticipatory Action and Peace and International Negotations.

This on-site workshop provided a deep dive into artificial intelligence for foreign policy professionals working in Berlin and beyond. As a breadth of new AI applications shook up both business and warfare, from Silicon Valley to Eastern Ukraine, it was crucial for those working on foreign policy – from diplomacy to climate, and from development to trade – to understand the fundamental changes this technology was about to bring.
